The effects of play

Children discover the world through play. This is important for their development, even more so for kids with special needs. That is why the Tovertafel games stimulate children in various ways: physically, socially, sensorially, and cognitively. This way, kids with special needs can express themselves in their own way.
The interactive light projections do not only encourage children to move, but also motivate them to keep on discovering. They boost self-esteem and encourage autonomy. Our engaging games make it easy to focus, which gives teachers the time to practise new skills with their students. This way, kids can practise social-emotional skills such as waiting for your turn, communicating with others and understanding emotions.

Game levels of our games

The Tovertafel games have game levels between 1 and 5. This figure describes the level of anticipated cognitive activity.

Level 1: These games are intended for observation only. We do not offer level 1 games (yet).
Level 2: The players do not only observe the games, but are invited to keep their attention.
Level 3: These games work toward a particular goal and require players to memorise things. To play level 3 games, the players need to stay focused. Every act is rewarded!
Level 4: It’s possible to make ‘mistakes’ while playing these games. The aim is to make the players think and reason. Their reactions can influence whether or not they reach the final goal.
Level 5: Level 5 games focus on the part of the brain that controls executive functions, such as planning and decision making. All Tovertafel games have game levels between 1 and 5. This figure describes the level of anticipated cognitive activity.

Physical effects

Training motor skills in people with intellectual disabilities is essential as it allows them to explore and understand the world around them. Our games will help them with this.
Social effects

Playing is something you do together. Social interactions help people with intellectual disabilities to feel understood. Games in this category stimulate social contact.
Sensory effects

Exposing people with an intellectual disability to stimuli in an appropriate manner allows them to relax, discover and learn. Our games in this category will help them with this.

Tover innovates, develops and designs. When designing games for people with intellectual disabilities, we know it is important to put yourself in their shoes. That's why we develop our products together with our players and their care professionals. This process is what we call co-design.
