Tovertafel for Learning Disability Care

The Tovertafel is a fun care innovation that allows care professionals to offer a challenging activity to people with learning disabilities at their own level. The tovertafel has a positive effect on people with learning disabilities by stimulating movement and social interaction. This helps to increase players’ self-esteem and self-reliance. 

Increasing self-confidence is very important because people with learning disabilities heavily rely on their caregivers for support and assistance with day-to-day activities. The Tovertafel helps to promote social bonding between people with learning disabilities and those who care for them to deepen connections and provide a source of lighthearted fun.

The Tovertafel’s games and activities have levels between 1 and 5 for people with learning disabilities. This figure has to do with the level of anticipated cognitive activity, so we can make sure that all of our games can have a positive influence on their players.  

1. Level 1: These games are intended for observation only. We do not offer level 1 games (yet).
2. Level 2: These games allow the players to not only observe but also hold their attention.
3. Level 3: These games work toward a particular goal and require players to memorise things. To play level 3 games, the players need to stay focused. Every move is rewarded!
4. Level 4: It’s possible to make ‘mistakes’ while playing these games. The aim is to make the players think and reason. Their choices impact if they reach the final goal.
5. Level 5: Level 5 games focus on the part of the brain that controls executive functions, such as planning and decision-making. All Tovertafel games for individuals with learning disabilities have game levels between 1 and 5. This figure describes the level of anticipated cognitive activity.
